Remember the time when BMX was so popular among the teenagers onwards? Well, similar to that sport, downhill mountain biking has been gaining popularity among our adventurous local youths now!

So what is downhill mountain biking?
Nope, it’s not just about owning a mountain bike and going down a slope. It’s more than that. It’s the ability to race down on steep, downhill terrains in the fastest speed possible and with an extended air time off jumps and other obstacles. It’s the power to race against the clock.

So, to get started, we had an interview with a local rider who frequently does downhill mountain overseas or in Bukit Timah.
Started off with an passion for cycling for 18 years, he ventured into downhill mountain biking last 4 years and has stuck with it ever since. We asked a few questions to know more about this sport, and were grateful with his enthusiasm to respond to us!
Q: So, where did you get to know about this sport?
A: I was surfing the net to find more information about mountain bikes and came across several related forums.

Q: So, where do you usually ride?
A: Pulau Ubin and Bukit Timah in Singapore, Batu Resap and Mount Austin in Johor, Cikolei in Bandung Indonesia, PutraJaya and Kiarra in Kuala Lumpur.
FUN FACTS:
1) Youngest local rider is about 10 years old!
2) Riders will usually gather every Friday at the end of the month at Raffles City from midnight to ride around Singapore
3) Most riders ride weekly for leisure purposes as they are mostly students.
4) Riders usually wear bright-coloured costumes and gears for safety purposes.

Not only it is costly ($6000 per bike, YIKES), you need to take care of it regularly!
